Solve the following.
- Find the value of 6.2 – 4.78
- Find the value of 3.04 × 3000
Need a hint?
For (a), line up the decimal points and write 6.2 as 6.20 before subtracting. For (b), multiply 3.04 by 3 first, then by 1000.
Worked answer
- (a) Write 6.2 as 6.20 so both numbers have two decimal places.
- 6.20 – 4.78: borrow across the columns to get 1.42.
- (b) 3.04 × 3000 = 3.04 × 3 × 1000.
- 3.04 × 3 = 9.12.
- 9.12 × 1000 = 9120.
