Priya, a market stall owner, had 4.8 kg of rice at first. After selling some rice, she had 3.65 kg left. How many grams of rice did Priya sell?

    Need a hint?

Convert both masses into grams before finding how much rice was sold.

    Worked answer

    1. 4.8 kg = 4.8 × 1000 g = 4800 g.
    2. 3.65 kg = 3.65 × 1000 g = 3650 g.
    3. Mass sold = 4800 g − 3650 g = 1150 g.
    Answer: 1150 g

Some pupils may subtract 4.8 from 3.65 directly because the masses are in different forms. Both masses must first be converted into the same unit.
