A garden hose is 3720 metres long. Another hose is 2.6 metres long. Answer each part. Give each answer in the form asked.
- Write 3720 metres as a decimal.
- Write 2.6 metres as a mixed number in simplest form.
- Find the total length of both hoses, in metres, as a decimal.
Need a hint?
For (a), change the fraction to hundredths first. For (c), line up the decimal points before adding.
Worked answer
- (a) 7/20 = 35/100 = 0.35, so 3720 = 3.35 m.
- (b) 2.6 = 2 6/10 = 2 3/5 m, since 6/10 simplifies to 3/5.
- (c) 3.35 + 2.6 = 5.95, so the total length is 5.95 m.
