The total mass of a melon and a bunch of grapes is 1112 kg. The mass of the bunch of grapes is 14 kg. Find the difference between the mass of the melon and the mass of the bunch of grapes.
Need a hint?
Find the melon's mass first, then compare it with the grapes using a common denominator of 12.
Worked answer
- Mass of melon = total minus grapes = 1112 - 14
- Change 14 to twelfths: 14 = 312
- Mass of melon = 812 = 23 kg
- Difference = 23 - 14 = 812 - 312
- Difference = 512 kg
Answer: 5/12 kg
