A theatre had 1800 tickets for a show. 33% of the tickets were sold in advance. On the day of the show, a further 450 tickets were sold.
- How many tickets were sold in advance?
- How many tickets were still unsold?
- What percentage of the 1800 tickets were still unsold?
Need a hint?
Find the number of tickets left after both sales first, then compare that number with the total of 1800.
Worked answer
- (a) 33% of 1800 = 1800 × 33 ÷ 100 = 594 tickets sold in advance.
- (b) Unsold = 1800 − 594 − 450 = 756 tickets.
- (c) Percentage unsold = 756 ÷ 1800 × 100 = 42%.
Answer: 42%
