Ms Lim shares 1350 litres of rainwater among three tanks, A, B and C, in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. How many more litres does Tank C receive than Tank A?
- 150 litres
- 300 litres
- 450 litres
- 600 litres
Need a hint?
Find the value of one part first, then work out how many parts separate Tank C from Tank A.
Worked answer
- Total parts = 2 + 3 + 4 = 9 parts.
- One part = 1350 ÷ 9 = 150 litres.
- Tank C = 4 parts = 600 litres; Tank A = 2 parts = 300 litres.
- Difference = 600 − 300 = 300 litres (or 2 parts = 2 × 150 = 300).
Answer: 300 litres

Stopped at one part in ratio
Pupils often stop after finding one part (150 litres) or give Tank C's full share (600 litres) instead of the difference.
