Which of these capital letters does not have a line of symmetry?
- A
- H
- F
- O
Need a hint?
For each letter, ask whether a straight fold line can make the two halves match exactly.
Worked answer
- Fold A down its middle: the two halves match, so A has a line of symmetry.
- Fold H along its vertical or horizontal middle: both halves match, so H has line symmetry.
- Fold O along any line through its centre: both halves match, so O has line symmetry.
- Try F: no straight fold line gives two matching halves, so F has no line of symmetry.
Answer: F

Calculation slip
Pupils often pick A because its slanted sides look uneven, but folding A down the middle shows its two halves match.
