Noah's craft box has a square base with an area of 49 cm². One upright rectangular face has an area of 84 cm². Find the volume of the box.
Need a hint?
Find the side length of the square base first, then use an upright face to find the height.
Worked answer
- Since 7 × 7 = 49, one side of the square base is 7 cm.
- The height is 84 ÷ 7 = 12 cm.
- The volume is 49 × 12 = 588 cm³.
Answer: 588 cm³

Calculation slip
Dividing 84 by 49 does not give the height because both quantities are areas. Find the side length of the square base before finding the height.
